On the eastern outskirts of Dundee, the quaint seaside town of Broughty Ferry was favoured by the city's jute barons and became known as "the richest square mile in Europe".  Its prominent seafront esplanade and extensive sands are perfect for a stroll or a picnic after a browse around Broughty's wonderful small shops.  At the heart of the town, 15th century Broughty Castle houses an excellent museum with superb displays on arms and armour, seashore life and the whaling industry.
